I was trying to think of a ITV1-style "Switch to ITV2 now for all the backstage gossip and news" sort of title, but it’ll do.
People of Europe, the Eurovision has ended. I’ll save the Sky+ space of the nation by outright telling you that
RUSSIA WON AND THE UK CAME JOINT LAST
Yep. That’s political voting for you.
Andy Abraham sung a fairly decent song as both me and good old Terry Wogan thought. Sure, some people may have been sarcastic about his chances but they were right to do so. I don’t think he put a note wrong in his performance (Which is more than can be said about Jemini) but people didn’t vote for him. Why?
Right. I’ll tell you did win first… again. It was Russia. Russia with their entry ‘Believe‘. It had a beginning which sounded like it was ripped from either Basshunter or that song from Skins. See, it’s already appealing to the younger generation. There’s no fast paced beats and even an ice-skater on stage. Shall we just count which demographics aren’t related to? Turkeys entry was a mish-mash of Ska and Rock, which propelled it quite far in the top few for a long while. It’s been the research of actual scientists and mathematicians, so it’s got to be true…
But as Sir Terry himself keeps pointing out and guessing what the televoter person will say for their 12 points, the same countries vote for the same people. It’s politics. Oil, aid, money, protection, you name it, they’ll have their reasons other than the music on offer.
The UK is hated by everyone. It’s only really Ireland and on the odd occasion someone else will give us any vote, let alone anything good. We’ve done nothing wrong, it’s just that we’re near nobody else but Ireland and, lets face it, France won’t vote for us, will they…
For 2009, I’m following Facebook. The ‘Bill Bailey for Eurovision 2009′ group I’m liking the sound of, if not ‘Campaign Against Political/Geographical Voting in the ESC’. Someone do something, even if it’s not anything more than more pirate themed songs.

we should sing in French next time. mais, c’est l’amour. Non, C’est la VIE.
