Come on Czech Republic!

Well, you’ve got to cheer on someone. People won’t think I’m George Sampson for much longer, and if England aren’t in Euro 2008, who can you support?

With Croatia knocking England out of Euro 2008 really quite famously, when Steve McClaren got the chop the next day. It was the first time in 24 years we hadn’t managed to qualify for a European tournament, which sucks. Means that we’ve always played in it since I was born. Why, that McClaren. Breaking tradition. Loser.

With no British teams good enough to play in Euro 2008 this year, who should we back? For me it’s the Czech Republic. Why? Because they’re not exactly expected to win it, and because their words don’t make much sense from and Englishman’s view. Oh, and they eat Carp at Christmas. Ha. What legends.

But from a pundit point of view, it boils down to four teams – Germany, Netherlands, Spain and Sweden. But I hope they lose, from my "Big up the underdog!" view.

The Germans look like they should have an easy time against Croatia, Austria and Poland in Group B. Well, since Austria and Poland haven’t participated before, I hope they beat Germany. Pfft. Like that’ll happen. Poland already lost 2-0 to them already.

The Netherlands seem the hot favourites. Well, at least, from England supporters perspectives. They’re in Group C against the likes of Italy, Romania and France. Meh. They must be the favourites for some reason.

Spain and Sweden are both in Group D, against Greece and Russia. Greece won Euro 2004, so shouldn’t they be quite high on the favourites list? Pfft, maybe that’s my logical thinking, there. Russia’s probably only good at song contests, so yeah. Go Greece.

So there’s my "Mum, it doesn’t work like that" description of Euro 2008. Lets just hope that goes according to plan, yeah? And maybe with the World Cup qualifiers in 2010, we don’t completely balls it up. Maybe that Fabio Capello guy can do any better.
