Today was the last Boy’s Brigade meeting until September.
It also marked the end of my Duke of Edinburgh Silver service.
It was Parents Day, when the kids dragged their parents to come watch them to show that they didn’t just play football for an hour and a half each Wednesday for a year. Little Alex’s dad (Who does actually look like Chris Moyles now) along with Big Alex’s mum and two sisters and Paul’s dad were the only ones to turn up, but anyone’s better than no-one.
They performed the marching routine they did for the competition not so long ago. After that they presented the awards, which they apparently stopped doing. I remember getting my bronze and silver badges. I’m sure I’ve got them still somewhere in a little brown envelope…
Anyway, then they played a sort of team-based Pictionary against the parents, who won. Blah. They also won the pegging-out-of-clothes game that randomly popped up, but that was sort of expected.
They played a bit of football, and then went in to demolish some hotdogs and biscuits before the final goodbye. I dished out some sweets as a thank-you and they applauded me for my work with them. Aww, bless.
Then they went. The last time I see them. I might see them again if I come back (Which I really, really would love to do) but not Big Alex and Paul, who move up to the Company section in September. Good luck to them, and good luck to them all. If I can’t make it back next year, I’ll miss you all.

And I will miss your blog post about the Boy’s brigade…
