University of Hertfordshire Open Day

It’s a shame I couldn’t go to town on our usual Saturday. This Saturday, I was going to the University of Hertfordshire for a little nose around the stuff they do. I only knew it existed when Andy was looking through the courses in Geography. Then when the open day was this Saturday, well, panic set in. I wanted to go look around, but was the 14th too soon to get there? Luckily, Andy’s dad could give me a lift. What a legend. Saved me £30-odd quid and 5 hours of my life on a train. :)

So yeah. They had this introduction talk about the university and something about finances, which took place in one lecture theatre but sent via video link to two other theatres. Both of which broke miserably at the first sign of a bad crowd-pleaser joke. The administration officer woman was trying desperately to stop people leaving and considering the uni by its first impressions. She was about to cry, I swear.

Anyway, so while they had to wait until 1.20 until Andy’s sport science presentation, I had one on Art, Design, Film, Music & Media presentation to listen to. I was only interested in the last bit, so had to sit through about 40 minutes of waffle. But they managed to make me even wonder whether I could do something more arty, somehow. Amazing powers of persuasion, I suppose. The whole Media bit I was waiting for was stuff I already knew anyway from the website, and that was about a course I didn’t really want to do.

The one I did want to do had a presentation at 12. Having to kill half an hour, I knew the presentation would also include a tour of the – I must say, very snazzy – music and media centre. So I had a little tour of the accomodation. It took 45 minutes, which I forgot at the time, so I missed the presentation. Never mind. I still had a look round the building before I went to watch the repeated welcome presentation. It’s very nice, with lots of swanky important looking facilities in it.

Then we went home. Pfft. That’s it. It wasn’t as good as I was expecting, going by how awesome certain courses sounded. Never mind. I’d put it down as a choice, assuming the other places are rubbishy. :\
