5. Streamline Raconteur.

I can finally tick one thing off of my list. Hoorah.

I had to do this first because if I didn’t, then redesigning it would be pointless. :P

There’s not a lot of differences from the previous versions to over a third of you, because you all view Raconteur at 1024×768 resolution (ie, the norm). My little update made it look nicer in 800×600 (ie, the old norm).

The top navigation links no longer have two words in them, so they don’t make it twice as thick as it needs to be. The fixed width now is slightly smaller, so it doesn’t start to scroll. Also, I’ve got rid of the sluggish Web2Messenger image in the sidebar. I loved that thing, but it was taking too long to load on so many people’s machines it wasn’t worth it. It’ll be back eventually, though, so don’t worry.

One thing I didn’t change, but do plan to change, is the flash banner. It’s the first thing that loads (For Internet Explorer users, which is about half of you) and slows down the whole page just waiting for a pointless video. It’s still there because the next version of Raconteur. doesn’t have it and I don’t see the point of making a new header just for a few days.

On a final note, the summer Raconteur. theme will be based off of ‘sustainable’ from the WordPress Extend Themes library. But at the moment, that looks too friendly. Any suggestions to make it look a little less… happy happy I will gladly take note of. Web2Messenger still works, if you want to contact me on that.

And on a final final note, Google Analytics is really useful for website owners – So go use it.
