Theory Test Success

That’s the name of the special DVD thing I got to help me prepare. Ah, how appropriate. :)

Today, at 1:45pm, I had my theory test. For those who don’t know (Either you’re don’t drive, you’re not from the UK, or just generally a dumbass) learning to drive is in two sort of steps – The Theory test and the Practical test. The practical test is how you would imagine a driving test to be, but the Theory test is questions on road signs, scenarios and whatnot and how you would react.

The multiple choice part of the test is exactly that – Multiple choice. It’s got, say, a road sign in the corner and you’ve got to select one of the four given options for what it means. It covers things like safety margins, signals and your actions in an accident or other scenario. It’s a lot easier than if you had to give the answer off the top of your head, but it’s not exactly easy. Some of the answers are quite obvious (Urr… I don’t know, why shouldn’t I be under the influence of drugs while driving…?) but some could be either or. 46 out of 50 = Pass. :)

The second bit is the Hazard Perception bit. Here, you’re played 14 clips of someone driving along with a camera to their roof, recording the various hazards they encounter. All you need to do is click the button every time a hazard would cause you to change speed or direction. You can just click any time it changes – which is what I do – or just hope you get lucky. If you fail this section, you’re officially a retard. 61 out of 75 = Pass. :)

So all in all, I passed my theory test. Now, to perfect the art of driving and not crash into anything…
