Quantum of Solace

Should you really bother going to watch the new James Bond movie this weekend?

"Du-du-DU-DU-du-du-du. Duu-du-du-du-duuuu."

For those who have been living in a ditch for their entire lives like something out of AutumnWatch, James Bond (Played by Daniel Craig) is a member of MI6 with a licence to kill. Ooh, scary.

In Quantum of Solace, Bond tries to thwart Dominic Greene, a member of the Quantum organisation, who is head of the environmentalist group ‘Greene Planet’. Bond’s out to stop their ulterior motive – To overthrow Bolivia’s water supply. He’s also out to get revenge for the death of Vesper Lynd.

Now, I won’t spoil the plot for you die-hard fans (Yeah. Pfft. I’m actually not going to to tell you that Strawberry Fields dies covered in oil. Like I’d do that.) but the storyline’s a bit… hard to follow anyway. I hate jumping into the negatives, but it’s hard not to do that with a film which should’ve been so awesome.

This is TOTALLY not a scene from the film. It never really got going. Sure, there was a couple of action sequences here and there, but nothing like “Wow. That’s quite cool.” like from other movies and even Casino Royale. With something like James Bond, that’s pretty much all you expect from it.

It’s no longer a fantasy look at how you’d think secret agents would work, but more of a realistic approach. No funky gadgets, no fancy jargon, no dilly-dallying about. Just boring realism.

It’s become such a commercial venture now. What, with posters everywhere, Coke doing a promo, product placement in any nook and cranny possible, it just wasn’t exciting.

Having only seen the two newest Bond movies, however, I’m not one to judge. I did prefer Casino Royale much better to this one, which actually made me nearly fall asleep in the last half hour, which has never happened before.

Nevertheless, you’ll kick yourself for not watching it, so go watch it before all the decent seats are taken. :)
