Portfolio.

Okay, so a while back, I said about me actually finally applying to university. Of course, my choices changed from when I handed in my tracker form to now, but these things happen.

But now it’s gotten to the stage where offers come in. Unfortunately for me, it’s not as straight forward as I’d hoped.

I knew that Art and Design courses required an interview and some portfolio work, so I was concerned I had to start work on that as soon as I applied. When I was looking through prospectuses and websites, it turned out that I didn’t need to (Well, it didn’t mention them where it usually does) so I could breathe a sigh of relief.

Imagine my surprise when two letters on the same day arrive asking to see me and to bring some work examples. I was like “Urm… argh.”.

I hate interviews. I mean, really hate them. The awkward waiting beforehand – worrying what questions they’ll pluck out the ether and ask you, when you’re expected to know the answer but really don’t. “How have I contributed to the media world? Well… I haven’t directly… but here’s some examples of some half-assed work I did a couple of years ago…” doesn’t really cut it with university tutors.

So on the 15th of December, I’ve got to make my way down to Birmingham City University for an “Applicant Open Day” with a one-to-one at the end to find out more about us. Ehh. Way to drop me in it, Birmingham. Thanks. (I’ve got a more proper interview at Staffordshire University come late January, which is more like a proper interview. Argh.)

So I thought I’d best start doing a portfolio. I was going to do it over the weekend, but I put it off, so I said I’d start it today. So I’ve got three weeks to design a portfolio and get my questions up to scratch.

As a result, I’ll probably show them the work on my blogs (Yes, blogs. It’ll be released as soon as I can actually take a decent, professional picture of myself. Ahem.) but I need to create two new designs of my own. The current ones are just templates because I don’t know how WordPress works. Uh-oh. Best get practicing…
