7 Things Review – January

Today’s the end of January, so what better day to review how my New Year’s resolutions are going. Feel free to have a gander at the 7 things I did at the start of this month to remind yourself of the overall goal… or you could just read on and not care. Either or.

My Posture

Pretty good giraffe impression, don't you think? Yeah. The first one on my list, and the first one I have actively been trying to correct. A couple of weeks into this project, I realised I wasn’t constantly taking care of it as much as I was when I started. I’m a bad kid.

But it’s really better than it was in 2008, I think. Before I could feel my spine around the middle of my back (which caused stretch marks which look like I’ve been whipped by something across the middle of my back. Weird.) but now it seems normally tucked into my back, which I hope is a good thing.

Thing is, my neck is still quite… saggy. I never realised how much I look down, so while trying to keep my neck upright and doing stuff like pouring cereal is quite hard. It’ll come with time and every time I catch my reflection, I straighten it all up. Practice makes perfect.

Lack of henchness

Ahh, what I tit I make of myself for your entertainment.Jeepers, another one I’ve actually kept, to an extent.

I’ve been to the school gym, like, a lot since I got back to the normal swing of things. Tuesday lunch, sprec lessons and Thursday 4&5. Come join me, yeah?

I say I’ve been going to the gym. I have been in the gym, but not necessarily working hard. Okay, so I keened the first few of times, but now it seems as boring as I first thought. The idea was to go there and have fun while doing it, which doesn’t seem to be happening. I’ll still go because if I don’t I’ll get more evils from Simon and Will, and that’s never good.

It does have its upsides though. Apart from the social degradation I feel whenever someone more hench is around and laughs at you struggling at their toning weight, I feel somewhat more confident. Maybe it’s a combination of this and the first point, but I feel more confident knowing that my core exercises are actually doing something (I’d show you it, but there’s some lows even I won’t stoop to).

David Hanley also beat me in an arm wrestle. It’s a little sub goal to beat him before this year is over. Watch out, boy.

Poor excuse of a style

I am not the Fonz.Right, here’s one that hasn’t changed.

I have a car now, so that eats up all my money in terms of petrol. That’s what little money I have. So this month I haven’t got any new clothes.

Unless you class socks as clothes. I got six new pairs of socks: five on a visit to see John at Peacocks, and the other pair are Hayley’s Hello Kitty socks (which I have actually worn). These cost, like, £4 in total, so it’s not exactly breaking the bank. They look snazzy, though.

I’ll need some new get-up for some of the stuff planned for February, though, so tips would be good.

My nerdy lifestyle

myspace whore.Right. Seeing as it’s a Saturday afternoon and I’m here blogging instead of going out and actually talking to people, this one’s probably gotten worse. Oh dear.

I love this blog, I’m not going to give that up. But this month, I’ve blogged about last.fm, wordle.net and a Plurk app for the iPhone. I should probably stop doing that.

Although, in an effort to de-nerd myself while still getting some sort of money, I didn’t blog all that much at Social Element this month. I wish I did, though, as then I’d be able to actually get this ad revenue out of the AdSense account and spend it on my other goals.

My hairstyle

Try and spot the time when I realised I didn't put any hair stuff in... Sure, I might look happy in that picture, but I’m not with the hairstyle. I got it cut on… Tuesday, I think it was. I asked the nice woman to tidy it up, hoping to be able to still wear my new found hairstyle.

I sort of can, but it doesn’t look as awesome – and it wasn’t all that awesome to begin with. Credit where credit’s due, though, the woman did a good job of doing what I said, I just didn’t like the result. Too late now, though.

Here’s another thing which will just change over time. Hopefully, the puffy bits on the side of my head will disappear with time, too…

Social ineptness

It's supposed to be a "come with me!" action, but it doesn't work as a still... Those keen people who follow my Plurk and my blog will know I’ve been making an active effort to meet new people and talk to the people I’ve sort of forgotten about.

Granted, none of them have talked to me since, but I made an effort. I’m still making an effort to know new people and spread the Matt love around.

Stories of success stories just spur me on further, although the thought that they’ll probably all be broken by the time I go to uni upsets me. Meh, there’s a good seven months and a Canada trip until then, so yeah. We’ll see.

If you want to get to know me, and you’re just some random stranger on the Internet, drop me a line on the now lesser used Web2Messenger service and I’ll see how awesome you are.

Not a risk taker

Love how I do this in the safety of my own room... There’s not been anything to take risks on, really.

Driving, maybe? I’m probably becoming an ordinary road-rage driver now, Mainly because I just want to get out of the dog-smelling car as soon as possible. Pfft.

I’m falling behind on lots of things, which is hardly taking a risk, but it’s something to mention here. Maybe you can weave rubbish trial exam results on taking a risk. Risk nearly dropping out of sixth form. Ooh, you devil.

Simon’s organising this little trip to Canada which is, well, a pretty big risk with my finances. How will I know I’m not going to need them to dig me out of a recession hole when I can’t find a job after uni. Who cares, it’s a trip to Canada. Canada’s awesome.

But yeah. There’s still another good splodge of 2009 to go. Things can only get better, no?

Love your snazzy socks :p. And well, things are not going so bad… yet.

Canada is not awesome, but Québec is :p. Because of the Frenchness, of course.
