Okay, anyone with an overactive imagination and/or just can’t "stomach" any mention of vomit, please stop reading now. Or at least watch the video below.
The other day I was sick. Vomit-y sick. The first time I’ve ever actually thrown up in a good ten years of so. So it got me wondering why the best way of dealing with illness (or not, in my case) is to throw up? Then I got on to the subject touched on by Michael McIntyre in this video:
Yes, the mini-sick.
It seems like the audience agree with Michael, and so do I. What is it that brings up a little sick in our mouths?
Let’s look at what causes actual vomiting. You know, proper honking up. Your body knows what’s good and what’s bad. It knows when you were well last time and knows that it needs to keep those conditions there to keep you happy.
If it detects something’s not right, it’ll detect it at the first opportunity, which will usually be at your stomach. So obviously, the first thing to do is to get it out of there, asap. Go through your body? Pfft, that could take days, and even then it’s going to spread around the body and get all nasty. So it goes the more… direct route.
You get sick for all sorts of reasons. Of course, you could have eaten something poisonous to you, something you’re allergic to, or something you haven’t even eaten and there’s something not right elsewhere, like in your blood. The best way of getting rid of it is the fastest way possible.
So what’s with the mini-sick? It happens every so often within your lives because of a simple stomach acid imbalance. It can be caused by something you’ve eaten a while ago and your body is just expecting more or something, or that you’ve not eaten anything when your body thought it would. Either way, there’s excess acid in the stomach, and that’s not right.Your body’s reaction? Throw it up a little bit.
Digesting it would seriously damage your insides. Think about swallowing a drill, and you’re getting close. It goes the other way. Even though most people simply swallow it again, despite being disguising. To be fair, it’s probably for the best, just as long as you will eat something within the next few hours.
So don’t worry. The mini-sick is fine. If you haven’t done one and have read up to this point, well done. Shame you’ll have to wait until the next time it strikes until you’ll find out the reason for yourself…
