What’s so scary about Friday the 13th? I mean, I just saw the start of This Morning (Yeah, it makes good viewing during school holidays) and they felt it necessary to imitate Ghostbusters. Some kid – imitating Mr Bean in a video – caught a glimpse of a ‘ghost’ and they thought they should put it as the main feature. Why? Silly Eamonn Holmes…
Everyone knows the number 13 is unlucky (or lucky, if you’re weird like that) as it’s one off of the ‘perfect’ number 12. You’ve got twelve hours in a day, twelve months in a year, twelve signs of the zodiac etc. and its roots go back to biblical times. There were twelve disciples and Jesus present at the Last Supper. Thirteen. And Jesus died, apparently, soon after that. It’s been believed that if there are ever thirteen people present at a meal, one person will die soon after. But that’s only been believed since around the 19th Century. How nice.
Friday’s apparently evil too. Thanks to the Canterbury Tales, Friday’s have long been associated with failed projects and bad journeys, assuming you start them on that date.
So Friday the 13ths pretty rough going. Out of all the months in the 400-year cycle, there’s more Friday the 13ths than any other day (688, if Wikipedia is to be believed). That’s enough to tell the sceptics that it’s really not all that uncommon…
Having so many is bad for business. Around $850 million is lost in business every Friday the 13th due to the superstition of bad things happening. This is thanks to a good 17 million Americans having paraskavedekatriaphobia – that is, a fear of today’s date.
It’s not all bad news. Especially if you live in Australia. Statistics show that there are less accidents and people admitted to A&E on these days. However, the amount of road traffic accidents increase here in Britain. So don’t drive today, okay?
Well yeah. I was tempted to start my little challenge today, but I guess I’ll hold it off until tomorrow. It’s nothing exciting, but it’s just an attempt to see what living healthy could do to a person. Don’t go mental at the date, and you might just make it through to see what I have planned, okay? Good.

yay for friday the 13th!
cant wait for next months one
