Kingsthorpe Middle School brings back lots of memories. When Eric said "Alas and Alack" to me earlier, my memories came flooding back. I suddenly remembered about a poem I… urr… created in Year 7, I think it was.
We had a task set to make our own anthology. Basically, we had to find five or so poems we liked, make poems in a certain style (Like a haiku, Tanka and whatnot) and a couple of our own random poems. My Pet Duck is a random poem, but it’s quite cute, so I’ll share it. Enjoy, I guess.
(You need to view the blog post to see it)
I purchased a duck
But alas and alack
One cold winters morn
He woke minus his quack
We searched round the garden
He wanted it back
For a duck’s not a duck
If it’s not got a quack.I called in the vet
Who said "Poodles I do,
Cats, hamsters, stick insects
And the odd cockatoo
But I confess for the first time
I’m taken aback
For I’ve not even heard
Of a duck with no quack"But he stuck a thermometer
In the duck’s beak
Then said "Ahhh, the problem’s
Become clear as I speak -
This duck has developed
A case of the ‘flu
And just lost his voice
As a human would do….Just keep your duck warm,
Give him plenty to drink
(And some vitamin pills
Would help too, I think)
And you’ll find in a few days
The sounds that he’s lacking
Will come back full force
And you won’t stop him quacking…"You know something? He was right!

That is better than some …most of the poems we do in school!
Aww that was cute Matt! x
