I’m not really an avid movie-goer as I tend to get bored with movies any longer than, say, ninety minutes. Now I’m surprised to learn that this film, which was totally amazing in most counts, was actually just over two hours long.
The story follows Carl – an 18 year old who’s been told to come aboard the ship that broadcasts Radio Rock, the biggest pirate radio station situated in the North Sea and listened to by millions.
Radio Rock is led by Quentin (Carl’s godfather) who tries to keep the station afloat as the Government try to implement various loopholes in the law to bring them down. Minister Dormandy, with his faithful team of ‘sidekicks’ (one of which goes by the name of Twatt, which places funnily little bits in the serious parts)
I don’t want to spoil it, but you might want to read up on the Marine Offenses Act if you’re so bored and don’t want to watch the movie for its entertainment value.
I thought it was a great movie, despite what some reviews say. It was funny enough, but not overly funny. Some things were a little slapstick, but it was great for the most part. The only thing that annoyed me (besides the woman who sat next to me) was that The Count looks strikingly similar to Toddly00, but let’s just ignore my nerd tendencies there…
So yeah, if you get the chance, go see it. It’s got some good names in there, but if you’re not British, you probably won’t like it as much. Never mind. Go watch it anyway.
