Summer tuuunnneee.

So here’s a post where it’s good to get some feedback from. It’s here where I’ll discuss some serious contenders for summer tunage. You know, that one song which just sums up that summer.

Last year arguably it was Kid Rock with All Summer Long. It was number 1 in the UK singles chart and stayed there for just one week to be knocked off by Katy Perry, of all people. But it stayed number 1 in the UK rock chart for seventeen whole weeks. Okay, so maybe it wasn’t the most popular song at the time, but it’s the song which I recall playing whenever anything awesome happened.

The year before that it’s arguable the summer tune was Nickelback with Rockstar, but that didn’t really come out in the UK until September, so it showed up quite late in the day. Now, hearing that song brings emotions of both happiness and hate. Happiness because it reminds me of the Sicily trip we went on in NSB, but hate because when we got back, it was playing everywhere constantly. Yes, it got on my nerves :P

So what do I think could be this year’s summer tune? Well, it’s early doors.

Right now I’m liking the sound of Jamie T with Sticks ‘n’ Stones. I think mainly because it’s sort of happy and fun, despite being somewhat chav-like. It might be short lived, but may be a notable tune.

But looking forward to future releases, what could make this summer? Well if I were to put money on it, I would go for Rob Thomas with Her Diamonds. Heh. I don’t even know if this is going to be released in the UK, but it seems like the sort of thing all the preteen girls would download from iTunes.

I would’ve said The Gossip’s Heavy Cross would do well, but seeing as today it debuted at number 40 in the UK… possibly not. But it’s a nice sounding song and, like Her Diamonds, should slowly pick up when people realise it’s actually released now.

Obviously I’d love you to all go and buy Ian McQueen’s new song ‘Rest Assured’ but seeing as he’s American and it’s free, I don’t think it’ll be selling many copies in the UK. Well, we live in hope. :)
