Last night.

Obviously, that title only makes sense if you’re reading it on Friday 24th July 2009, but if you’re not, don’t worry it’ll still make sense… for the most part.

It all started back when we were at Humans vs. Zombies on Tuesday. Jordan randomly said he wanted to go to Groove on Thursday. I was like "A place which plays retro music with alcohol? What time do you want to meet?". Nothing comes between me and a bit of Gloria Gaynor.

HOT PIE We managed to recruit Steve Kay (well, when was he ever known to pass on anything to do with alcohol?) and Jake. A few other people were going to come too, but they never did. Shame. But four people is a nice number, anyway. I’m not going to complain.

We were meeting at half 8 in the Drapery. Problem was it was either the 7:20 bus or the 8:20 bus. I opted for the 7:20 as, you know, being early is always awesome. Thankfully Jordan could come and keep me company for the good half hour we had to wait for Jake and Steve. Groove looked a bit dead, so we went for a wander.

Thing is what was supposed to be half an hour turned into a good hour and a half. So me and Jordan had some munchies in McDonalds. I wanted a McFlurry, but the people decided to clean the machine (I know, how rude), so I opted for an apple pie. This lead to a lengthy discussion between me and Jordan insulting passers-by, laughing at McDonalds food and just wondering how the apple pie filling becomes the hottest substance known to man.

Jake, Jordan, Me Finally we found Jake and Steve who had just walked here. Groove still looked a bit… closed, so we ventured over to the Moon on the Square to kill some time. It seemed NSB had some sort of reunion going on there, as we had Joe Carr serve us and then Rory, Nick, a couple of Sams, Matt Hakes and Mitchell Cooke, amongst others, came flooding in. Turns out they were heading out to Roadmender. We said we were going too, just because it’s easier just to humour a drunken Hakes, it seemed.

We had a couple of drinks and headed back over to Groove, which was actually open now. Thing is, it might as well not have been. There was a couple dozen people in there and that was about it, and not a pound a pint. Yeah, we quickly left.

So we thought we’d give Roadmender a try. Y’know, it’s been raved about tonight. The queue was a good sign. After the security lady mocked Jake’s driving license picture, we were in. From here on in, Steve was in his element as per usual. Well, I say ‘element’, read that as ‘knows how to get drunk fast but expensively’.

Matt, Jake, Jordan, Me So from about half eleven till just gone three in the morning, we were out on the old dance floor, bustin’ some moves – Big fish, little fish, cardboard box-stylee. Of course not me, no. I need lots of alcohol to dance like a normal person (or at least feel like it, anyway) and there’s no way I’m spending £3 on some shitty alcopop more than once. I didn’t really drink any more since it got overly expensive to. I came out budgeting for pound a pint, so this wasn’t good.

Come about half two and it was clear Jake had enough of the dancing after thrashing out like some heavy metal freak. Jordan was just contempt being mental as usual. Steve was still going strong even if he did disable us all when he flailed his jacket around in our faces and flicking it in our eyes. Me, on the other hand, never really got into it. Sure, I sang along to the songs I knew but I was quite happy just standing their laughing at Steve as he sang the line "Am I making a fool of myself now believe me baby I can tell" from that song by The View, as he danced around like something you would only see in a May Day parade.

Me, Jake, Steve We eventually got out, and Jordan said his goodbyes to Jake and Steve. He’s off to Canada and probably won’t see them again unless they come back from uni. He’d obviously see me again, as I’m out there myself in… nine days now. Jordan slept on my floor in my Duke of Edinburgh sleeping bag, and he seemed quite contempt. I felt bad having to wake him up this morning so I could get my bags, tents and Trangias back to O’Neill.

Ahh well. Good times, good times.

Groove is awsome on a friday night! Why they have to charge stupid prices for a drink I shall never know! When Goose can charge 1/2 the price for a named brand, clubs etc charge twice the price for cheaper imitations! Hence why you drink in the cheap pubs and only have a drink in the clubs if a drunken mate buys you one!! x
