Where should be Northampton’s Old Kent Road?

Monopoly It’s not a question asked often, really, but it’s a tricky one to answer.

For those who didn’t know, our humble little town of Northampton is getting it’s own Monopoly board after beating Milton Keynes and Peterborough who were also in the mixing pot of ideas to get a board of a town or city in the area.

They’ve got most of the squares sorted. I see a flaw as we only have one train station, but besides that, they seem to have it covered. Places like Sixfields, the Chronicle and Echo building, the Express Lift Tower amongst others are touted to make an appearance. But Winning Moves – the company behind making the board – have hit a stumbling block. Nobody wants to be the least favourable space on the board.

Old Kent All other squares have been filled and in most cases applications had to be whittled down to whatever ones they’ve chosen. However applications for this space is still going spare. People ringing up companies or roads asking if they’d like to be it on the board, most people take it as an insult or think someone’s winding them up. Poor Old Kent Road.

So what do you think? Where’s the worst place in Northampton? It’s not very PC, but seriously. They’d like to know. I’m thinking it’s already got a space, but the Bus Station would be a good place for the space. The Chronicle and Echo suggest this too, and even the locally dubbed ‘Rat Island’ which sits in front of it. Other suggestions include the Ecton Brook sewage works and just generally the whole of the Eastern District.

I’m thinking Bellinge, which is what I sent to them myself. Send your own suggestions to oldkentroad@winningmoves.co.uk before the 6th August. They want this game out by Christmas. So hop to it!
