2 people. 2 hours. One & Other.

Unless you’re the same thickness as these, you’ll know I was in Trafalgar Square last night (Sorry, this morning) on the fourth plinth. Happy days. :)

It’s always going to be a long day when it starts at 8:54pm. I had to catch that one as it was the last train to London before my plinth hour, and so I could also spend some time with my Northampton peoples.

I was packed up with my camera, laptop, two bags full of random crap and some brownies. I didn’t want to miss a thing. While I didn’t exactly use it all, I knew I would want it if I didn’t bring it. So I struggled to Poole station loaded with all this stuff, got my tickets and found a good spot on the train before anyone else got the chance to. Y’know, one of those seats with tables too? One of them. When I paid a little more attention to my ticket, though, I had a "compulsory" seat reservation, but bugger that if I’m moving all that stuff again to find coach J, wherever the hell that was.

The conductor guy didn’t seem to care, just going round with his little rubber "approved" stamp stamping the love out of the ticket. So I just sat in the alleged quiet carriage with girls dressed as builders and blokes drinking a little too heavily. It was Saturday night, after all. I ate a couple of brownies I’d made for the occasion and a bag of Tangfastics to get me all sugared up and excited for what was about to happen.

Landan taaaaawnnn

A bit of walking later, I ended up in Trafalgar Square and meeting up with Harry, who also got there a little bit earlier than would be desirable, but hey ho. More hype time. :)

HEEEEEEEEY By about half one, we’d all met up. Me, Simon, Jordan, Harry and – of course – one vital attendee, Jake were just having a bit of a laugh and eating some brownies (with the exception of Jordan, who more knawed) in Trafalgar Square. I thought I’d best hop to it to the welcome centre to make sure they know who, where and what I am and left the rest too it.

I had a bit of a security check to make sure I wasn’t, y’know, a terrorist. Then I just went into the welcome centre where I had to sign a few forms and then had a bit of a chat with the 2am and 3am plinthers. The 3am guy seemed very relaxed, but the 2am one seemed rather nervous. Meh, both of them did alright in the end…

Noms. So after a natter and a cuppa latter, we had the audio interview for something called "Audio Britain" or something similar. Basically I had to say a bit about my life and my time on the plinth. It’s not an easy thing to do when you don’t know what you’re going to do… but hey, I winged it. I had a couple of full-length body pictures taken of me, then it was up on to the cherry-picker to begin my hour!

There’s nothing more surreal than standing high above Trafalgar Square at 4 in the morning, especially when you’re being filmed and being watched by about 4,000 people at any given time. But it was a lot of fun. I got to give out glow sticks and vaguely plot some of my friends on a map. The best bit by far though was the drunk woman trying to give me her flower – in the least Monica Geller sense of the phrase. I’d only be worthy of it if I stood on the plinth for over 12 hours… which is kind of impossible, but hey ho…

Surprise! Then we had a little surprise up for everyone. The guy who was going to be on after me somehow ‘completely forgot’ and the One and Other team were in panic mode trying to find a replacement. Nobody was replying on their stand-by list, so I offered the skills of my friends. Jake kindly volunteered and did a pretty good job of it. You can be the judge yourself, though. :)

So if you want to watch my plinth hour with glow sticks and post-its, have a look here, but if you’d like to watch Jake’s medley of train tickets and the YMCA, go have a look at his profile.

But yeah, it was so much fun. I would love to do that again. Thanks again, Timi, for telling about the One and Other project. But most of all, love you all! =]

    You guys did great!

Jake’s quite funny, he should do presenting or something. He can talk about nothing for an hour, that’s a skill and a half! lol
