Argumental.

Argh, if only I had time to write blogs properly during Fresher’s Week…

So yesterday I went to good old London town to meet up with Timi and John, who were joining me at a recording of the TV show Argumental. If you don’t know what Argumental is, well, let this little clip of the show sort of explain it to you:

The premise is this: There’s two teams, and they have to argue a point in a funny way. Then the audience votes for which team gave the best argument. Hence the name Argumental. Simple.

But let’s get back to the beginning. I woke up at about 8am (which, as you know, for a first year during fresher’s week, is impossible) to find the train station and head off to London. I thought I best leave my flatmates a note, just so they knew where I was.

022049Two hours later and a bit of money out of pocket, I arrived in London. I walked along the Jubilee Bridge and to Trafalgar Square, where I met Timi and John eventually. While I waited for them to track me down, though, I watched a lovely little lady make bags on the plinth. I thought I’d best get some ideas of what it’s like up there, seeing as that’s me on Sunday morning.

But eventually we met up, which is always good. Even though we hadn’t seen each other for four days – which would be less than we would in Northampton anyway – it felt like a reunion. Fun times with the majority of the people still remaining in Northampton.

We went round the National Gallery, where all the Jesus paintings are, for John to get inspired for his art foundation course. Although I did spend most of the time cracking jokes about the pictures and at one point getting too close (read – "within six inches") to a painting and getting the third degree from a member of staff. Just because I said a bridge looked like a horse. Pfft.

We kind of ran short of time (thanks in part to me and my dodgy train of choice, which apparently broke half way down) and had to rush the Tate gallery. What I did see of it, though, was pretty epic. Any interactive exhibition rates highly in my books, along with modern art (out of all aspects of art, anyway).

We had to dash back to The London Studios at 5 in order to make a good spot in the queue for the audience to Argumental. After a bit of waiting around, though, we got to go into the inside waiting area… thingy, where regular stars to the studio had done metal castings of their hands and had a little sort of plaque on the wall. We were standing next to the likes of Stephen Fry, Philip Schofield and… Graham Norton…

But eventually we got into the studios, where I explained the idea of Argumental to the two digital virgins I’d brought along with me. I told them what the paddles were for and they got into it quite quick.

We were graced not only with the presence of John Sergeant, Marcus Brigstocke and Rufus Hound, but als the guest panelists Steven K Amos, Jack Whitehall, Richard Herring and… that other curly haired guy…

It was a laugh and we got to see two episodes being recorded. While I don’t want to spoil it for you, Marcus’ team wins both episodes. :P

Then, after the recording, we head over to Waterloo where we say goodbye for now, and see you again Sunday morning for some plinth action. Fun times. :)
