So today was the first day of the little course induction type thing they have for our Interactive Media Production course at Bournemouth Uni. Seeing as I thought it was just enrolment and would take 20 minutes maximum, it was a long day, but what made it even longer was that the fact I hardly knew anyone.
Me and my flatmates (minus Shauna) went on the Unilinx bus to Talbot Campus together, which is fine by me. I know these people, and I now feel comfortable around them. I seem fine talking to new people on this bus, too, as I’m around people that are (appearing to be, anyway) fine with me. It’s not as awkward.
But seeing as this was the first time I actually had to go to the uni, to meet the people on my course, it was a lot more awkward. The people I went with "enrolled" at 9, whereas I was at 10, so I had to wait around on my own for an hour. Thankfully a guy on my course came up to me saying he recognised me from Facebook. I’m thankful for him doing that, as not only did it give me something to do for the rest of this hour, it made me come out of my non-talkative mood I’d got myself in since I said goodbye to my flatmates.
We both walked up to the room we were supposed to be "enrolling" in. Outside were sat other ‘IMP’s, including that guy I recognised from YouTube, but we never really said anything after that. Apart from the chatter coming from the group that was there originally, nobody said a word.
But yes. 10 rolls round and it turns out this is going to be more than just enrolling, but more a 7-hour lecture-fest about topics more boring than the people who work in the National Gallery.
We had said lectures, but after the second one – where we had an hour-long break – everyone went off their separate ways, talking in pairs or in groups, and there’s just me on my lonesome, eating lunch in the cafe bit. I got real bored. I couldn’t find any other IMPs around at all.
We had another lecture, then a two-hour break. It’s then when I went for a bit of a wander around the bit where the uni is situated. Its essentially in the middle of nowhere, as I found out. So I went to the theatre where the final lecture was being held… and also where about a quarter of the original number of IMPs were.
But I got talking to some people, which is always nice. I would never start a conversation (first off, anyway) with a random stranger, so I’m thankful for them starting it off.
But yeah, I hope tomorrow’s events aren’t as socially awkward as they were today. Maybe/Hopefully I’ll bee in a more sociable mood. Here’s hoping.

Oh noes, your uni is essentially in the middle of nowhere
I hope you get to make some ‘friends’ soon. Well, at least people you feel comfortable around
Go Matt Go!
PS: I used one of your post it today
