Christ. Halloween already? I’ve been at university over a month now, so I’m way past the "settling in" bit of proceedings. How have I met my goals this month? Well – seeing as I’m now educated in the style of Reflective Writing, I’ll do so through that means.
I remember that night well. I was walking through the park and saw a child. I don’t know what drew me to him. Perhaps his bright red face singing like an alarm bell, calling my paternal instinct towards him. He looked ill, just like Charlie was. It brings back horrid memories. He spoke. He asked, in his brassy voice, "Why don’t you stop making bad in-jokes with the IMPs and get on with it?" Yessir.
My posture
Right. Let’s be honest here. I totally haven’t paid any attention to this step once again. There’s not a lot you can do. If anything, my posture’s fine how it is. It’s how Average Joe’s posture is.
I keep my hands out my pockets when I can. That seems like a key contributor to slouching on my part. But yeah, there’s just sometimes – like killing time around uni – where you just have to go around with your hands in your pockets so you don’t feel like a complete loser with no friends, just a slight loser who’s bus gets there half an hour before anyone else does.
I’m riding the bus much more now, too. Mainly because I have to. But what I’m doing now is sitting upright more in them, or slouching with style (which can be read as ‘leaning half on the seat, and half on the glass, so you look like, had you had a steering wheel in front of you, you’d be driving it like you stole it).
Lack of henchness
So turns out Dolphin Pool and gym were out of action up until a couple of weeks ago, where virtually everything opened except from the pool. That’s not opening until the end of next month. But Tim did go and join the gym, telling me it’s a good £60+ to join from the start, but that gets you free entry to everything, then it’s £18 a month after that. Yeah, seeing as I’m actually skint, that’s not going to happen any time soon.
Poole Park has a running track around it that Matt and Charmaine have gone round. I was going to go round it when I had a free Friday but alas, no such things have been available since I had the idea.
But you know what, I have started some sort of indoor fitness regime (…oh yes…). It involves sprinting the stairs, pushups and all that jazz. I couldn’t care less if Simon wants to rip my ‘fitness’ ‘regime’ to pieces, if I think it’s doing good, then it’s doing good.
Poor excuse for style
Hmm, all quiet on this front.
In fact, I’ve lost more style than I’ve gained. Thanks to the White Rave and some permanent paint, I’ve lost one of my favourite shirts. But meh, it was only a tenner from Tescos, so I can’t really complain. Swings and roundabouts in this life, y’know?
Oh, but I did get a coat from Peacocks. Although I thought that was last month. But hey, I don’t think I mentioned it here, so you can pretend I got it this month, kays? It’s one of those awesome looking ones which – thanks to my student discount and due to the fact it was from Peacocks already – was affordable. Go NUS Extra card, GO!
My nerdy lifestyle
The IMPs (That is, the people on the Interactive Media Production course) can be classed into two distinct categories: Nerd and Douche. I’m firmly in the nerd side, with the majority of the others. But there’s various shades – sorry, "hues" – of nerd. If I were a colour in the nerd spectrum, I’d be a light blue. I’m a peripheral. But that’s incredibly easy. There are some hardcore ones in this subject, I can tell you.
But that doesn’t stop me being overly nerdy. I’ve tried to come across as not a nerd to new classmates, but in most cases either fail or slip too far into the Douche category. If only I knew what they thought of me…
Some nights I’ve stayed in when I could’ve gone out, but others when I’ve gone out when I should’ve stayed in. I’m a fool. A nerdy, somewhat social fool. But hey, I could be arguing whether a Mac is better than a PC. (I mean *duh*, Linux FTW… </sarcasm>)
Oh, I did get Windows 7. +1 nerd power. But hey, it was cheap because I’m a student, okay?
My hairstyle
So yeah. Same old. I haven’t gotten my hair cut since last time. I could do now I’m in Northampton for the weekend, but it’s just gotten to the length I like it… but I don’t like this mullet thing going on… hmm…
Bah. Anyway. I dug deep into my pocket and purchased another pounds-worth of that style-y stuff. Yeah, now I’ve learned how to properly apply it, I like it when it turns out well. Heh. I’m becoming obsessed.
But never mind. Another haircut’s just round the corner. I can sense it. Another mainstream hairstyle for Matt. Hoorah.
Social ineptness
Well apart from the White Rave and that other random social or two which never properly happened, I haven’t been out with friends. Most of the time I’ve either been in my room or out in the kitchen with the others duct-taping people’s doors in.
Oh, I was a lonely old soul. But hey, it’s the way I roll this month it seems.
I’ve also noticed myself automatically going off and doing stuff on my own at uni, rather than going with a group of people I associate myself with. Seems like if Steve isn’t there, it’s like some sort of missing link and I know no-one. Damn, I need a backbone. Hopefully I’ll snap out of that habit soon, before it’s too late.
Not a risk-taker
Risky business… Risky business… nope. Nothing springs to mind. I suppose getting home was pretty risky. Managed to do that fine. Ooh, how exciting…
But no. I have joined Nerve Radio. I have no idea how that’s going to pan out, nor what’s required of me, but I’ve joined up. Starting the 3rd November and then every other Tuesday at 12-1pm, listen to me on Nerve Radio, which you can listen to online if you’re not hip enough to be a BU student.
But yeah. Nothing of the calibre of last month. Maybe I should do, like, a sponsored skydive for December. Hmm. Y’know, that’s not a bad idea…
Well, I hope you enjoy your Halloween antics and I’ll see you next month, hopefully back in Poole and with some more exciting tales to share with you. =]

“Driving it like you stole it” I might have coughed into my tea. Damn you
Good post. Are you doing NaBloPoMo?
I was going to, but then now it’s the third and I haven’t even started. So I suck. :p
