I can’t believe nobody told me about Blog Action Day before today. Now I have to fit a rather interesting blog about climate change into the last 20 minutes of the 15th that are remaining…
Before we start, a brief introduction to Blog Action Day. October 15th is a day where bloggers all over the world contribute to blog about one single cause, generally about the environment. This year is climate change, so I’ll be trying to make light of a serious issue so you don’t think you’ll be getting a Geography A-Level at the end of it.
So what are you doing now? Evidently, if you’re reading this, you’re on some sort of electronic device or – assuming you’re just deliberately trying to prove me wrong – reading it on paper you’ve printed out. All of that, yeah, is contributing to the overall problem of climate change. Seriously, stop reading. You’re killing the planet!
But don’t. I love you. You love me too. You’ll keep reading, I know you will.
Anyway. The truck that delivered your computer to the store, the car you went in to pick up your computer, the electricity running through your cords to power your computer are all contributing to what’s essentially cooking us alive. You don’t need an 18-year old student to tell you that all that can be quite costly not only to your bank balance, but to the world around you.
We’re at a tipping point (or there abouts). Scientists – or, rather, people who know more stuff than I do – say that if we act on cutting out our emissions now, then there’s a chance the Earth can recover to how it should be. But if we carried on how we were, say, 10 years ago, then we’d be over the ‘tipping point’ and we might as well pack our bags to go and live on the moon because this Earth ain’t gonna get no better. It’ll be like a Vengaboys comeback tour. Unplug it, and it will get better. Leave it going and the world will crumble around you.
Now I’m not saying we should keep the Vengaboys apart for the sake of the world (well, I kind of am), but I’m saying what you should do is just try using your car less, turn off what’s not needed and reuse what you can. Mother Nature will love you for it and, lets be honest, chicks love a full recycling bin…
Coming from someone who’s had to get used to getting a bus to and from uni every day now, it’s not easy, but nothing worth doing is ever easy. I feel like I’m saving the planet, and it’s a nice feeling. You should feel it too.
Oh, and one final thought from Timi on the matter. You know it makes sense.

…oh yeah!
I’ve never read a blog which so eloquently links the Vengaboys to the end of the world
