Hey ho. So today had to come. The final day of the One and Other Project in Trafalgar Square. You know, that thing I was involved in?
It’s been 100 days since the 6th of July when the first official plinther RachelW and became the first in a row of 2400 people queuing up for their chance to be the most important person in Trafalgar Square. Isn’t that nice.
I – of course – was one of these people. By my calculations, I was plinther 1988 if you want to get all technical about it. By definition, that makes this T-shirt number 1988/2400:
What my plan was today was to watch the last plinther then go into uni wearing that T-shirt and see how many people knew what it was.
But that didn’t happen. Mainly because of the whole… freezing weather thing we’ve got going on right now. For the first time in ages, I could see my breath in the air. Obviously, I had to pretend I was a dragon, but that’s for another post…
So I wore my hoody for my couple of lectures this morning, but when I came out I was boiling in it. So I took the decision to wear it round Poole town centre when going to buy a new visual diary.
Nobody asked me about it (Well, would you ask a complete stranger about the origin of his T-shirt?) but you could tell a good 10-15 people walking round knew what it was. They had that sort of look in their eyes as they tried to casually see what it said without me noticing. Pahah, I caught you.
But it shows what the project was. The One & Other Project was a truly influential one. There’s been nothing like it before – and probably never will be in the future – but everyone can immediately relate to it, even if it is a pillock dressed as Darth Vader.
It’s a shame it’s gone, but hey ho, all good things come to an end. I’m just wondering what Gormley’s next project is…

Oh, yeah, you can see highlights from the 100 days on the Sky Arts website. =]

Nobody knew what my tshirt was when I wore it the day after our plinthing…
