Now you’re more likely to remember the stuff in this post than the last one. So sorry if this seems a little redundant. But hey, I like repeating myself. Repeating is fun. Repeat. Repeat. Anyhoozle…
Northampton got it’s own Monopoly board, and there was uproar as to what would get the Old Kent Road spot – the most worthless spot on the board. Obviously, nobody volunteered to be it, so they asked people to suggest places. The eventual winner was the National Lift Tower (which suspiciously changed its name when it appeared on the board from the Express Lift Tower…) and in my opinion, it’s pretty fitting, don’t you agree? That thing is ugly, but it is the first thing you see when you enter Northampton…
Jo Wiley and Edith Bowman were given the elbow from their daytime slots on Radio 1. Those two – along with Scott Mills – were the sole reason I listened to Radio 1 at the time. I was glad to hear they weren’t completely gone, but there’s only so much Fearne Cotton I can take, however lovely she is =]
The most recent Flashmob in Northampton – the Thriller Flashmob – was held in July to commemorate the loss of the alleged King of Pop. A record was attempted, but nowhere near broken as we took to the Market Square to perform the dance. It was anything but what flashmobbing stands for, so it sucked a little, but it was all a laugh. Can you spot me?
Me and Timi went to a recording of Britain’s Best Brain. It was both our first time in a TV studio and was certainly an experience we enjoyed. We were bitten by the bug and were joined by John to go to an Argumental recording later on in the year at the ITV Studios. While that one wasn’t broadcast for whatever reason, Britain’s Best Brain was. You got to see our mugs on telly, like!
We buggered off to Canada for a couple of weeks after the exams were over with to get away from it all. We spent a good couple of weeks in a fancy hotel (which was strangely cheap…) and went to the top of the CN tower, saw a baseball game and hung out with some amazing Canadians. Now Simon’s over there with Jordan reliving that awesome fun we had. Aww. But hey, it’s New Year’s Eve, and we get it earlier than them. Muahahaha!
I went off to Bournemouth Uni to start a new life in Poole. Hey, I love Northampton. It’s where my roots and my friends are (or at least were…) so I certainly wasn’t glad I left. But I don’t think I could’ve fallen better with the best flatmates and coursemates anyone could ever ask for. Go us IMPs! Woop. We’ve got another social already planned for when we get back. Yes, we study Facebook for a degree, but we know how to party.
Me and Jake went on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square as part of the One & Other project, which is perhaps the coolest thing I’ve ever done. Yelling at drunk people and passing out glowsticks in London. Can life get any better? Perhaps yes, seeing as the first impressions were me dressed as some sort of Fathers For Justice protestor. But never mind. There’s a book coming out with all participants in it somewhere, coming in late 2010. You need to buy it. Pre-order now, at least.
The Ball Game was released, after much deliberation. It was supposed to come out before I went to university, but that kind of didn’t happen. So it ended up being a bit of a rush job in the end. But you can still play it and rate it, so I can get some money. Eheh. Oh, and a new game will come out as soon as I start work on it again. Pin back your ears for any news about the Sun and Orbitals. =]
The Chartjackers song was released. This crowd-sourced song was given the hard-sell by the people of the YouTube community. While it didn’t exactly jack the charts and came in at 37, that’s no mean feat for a completely unknown group of people getting a song in the charts. Obviously, you had that whole Rage Against The Machine business which actually got to the top spot. Not too shabby, Internet. Well done!
Gordon Brown revealed his favourite biscuit is actually anything with chocolate on it. I’d imagine him more of a digestive man. Maybe a bit of chocolate digestive? But not the ones with caramel in them, no no. They make terrible dunkers.
We learned what a Stupler is. It turned out to be a lot of things, like someone’s actual name. Ahah. Poor fellow. Sorry if any off-scrapes of humanity confused you with me. So many people asked me, I thought you’d best be told. It’s not actually anything. I hope I can at some point shed that name off of me on t’internet so I can be… respected.
Poole got a bit angry with its Christmas cone so much, they got the shopping centre in the town to donate a proper one. Was it worth it? Not really. I mean, yes, a proper tree is nicer to look at. But it’s only going to die. We complained about the one in Northampton, but they’re still here for a second year. Still dotted around. Thankfully no immigrants are in them this time.
Jake, Jordan and I started ShortOfTheNorm – a video collab channel on YouTube – to keep in contact with each other now we’re all in different places. I can tell you that it’ soon becomes addictive. Video making is the way of the Internet, it seems. Expect to see some more videos from me… especially later on today with any luck.
I gave the camera-on-a-bench experiment a go. Turns out people are more inclined to take a £2 disposable camera attached to a bench by plenty of string rather than actually participate. But I did get a comment from some lovely girls who show me they did actually participate. Thanks girls! =]
I signed up to DJ at Nerve Radio and it’s impossible to say how much fun it is. Play what songs you like and talk about what you like, all the time with lots of important looking buttons and sliders in front of you. It makes you feel important, even if about 4 people are listening. It goes all proper in the new year, with FM transmission, or so I hear. Ooh, exciting.
We also celebrated National Richy B day, which I think should certainly be made an annual event. What a legend.
And that was 2009. I wonder what blog posts are coming up in 2010? I say quite a lot, seeing as I just renewed the domain. Eheh. Sorry. More stuff to read in 2010. My bad. But try to enjoy it, please? =]

*Now Simon’s over there with Natalie
never actually saw Jordan
