Backing Young Britain

For those who didn’t know, on Saturday I went up to London for a little training session with the lovely people behind the social media arm of Backing Young Britain. And I also met Liam. Awesome :)

Backing Young Britain

I can see you. You’re probably thinking “Matt, that’s all well and good that you went for a training day, but what exactly is Backing Young Britain?” and well, hypothetical scenario, I’m just about to tell you.

Backing Young Britain is a cross-Government campaign which aims to get organisations to give the young people of Britain today some sort of opportunity in the working world. We’re the future of Britain, so wouldn’t it be awesome if we could give them a leg up into the future?

Don’t worry, I’m not expecting you to donate £2 a month to a charity or anything to get that warm glowing feeling inside, you can feel good about it by offering one of three things to the young workers (and we can help you offer it, too):

  1. Offer an Apprenticeship
  2. Give a young person a job
  3. Provide experience of work

Three little things that could lead to Britain’s next Crick, Newton or Hale. Or even Cowell, Moyles or Berners-Lee. Literally any organisation be they private, public or voluntary can sign up to Backing Young Britain.

Essentially all we’re trying to do here is to give young people their first break. If you give it to them – even if it’s helping you out – they’ve got the experience their CV’s looking for and can go on to bigger things all thanks to you. Isn’t that nice? :)

Interested? Fantastic, you can find out more, pop on over to the Backing Young Britain website, or if you’d like to chat to me or one of the other lovely young people backing this campaign ourselves, drop us a tweet over at our Twitter @youngbritain. We aren’t your typical shirt-and-tie PR giants, we’re just regular young people wanting to spread the word – but not in an annoying, crazy guy way. Honest.

Not an organisation? Just your little lonesome self? Aww, don’t worry. We’re not all running our own organisations. You can become a fan on Facebook and spread the word that way. Everyone’s a winner :)

Hope you can help young Britain get a foot on the employment ladder :)

Matt, this is a great blog post – thanks very much for spreading the word!

This should be a good place to point people to on Twitter, to let them know what you’re doing in a bit more than 140 characters.

Best of luck – have you joined the Facebook group yet? It’s a closed/secret group but I think Gill has invited you.
