It was around this time of year that NSB would force you to choose a subject to study for GCSE and that oh-so-friendly Green Form Exercise for the Sixth Form choices. Now I’m having to do it again to the tune of Bournemouth University.
The way it works here for us IMPs is that we have two sets of four to choose from – one from Strand A and one from Strand B. To make sure you are even more confused about your future, they make you get up and constantly refresh MyBU until sign-ups open at 9am. It’s the equivalent of waking up for a DFS sale, only that imagine sometimes the doors to the store won’t open, you can’t find the sofa you want and the sign-ups for this actually end.
Strand A is Agency, Popular Culture and Creativity (I know, I thought it sounded exciting too – How wrong was I…). Battling it out for your vote is Claudia’s Media and Activism choice, Shaun’s Media and Fictional Violence, Dr. Steve’s Media and Popular Music Culture and Trev and Neal’s Media and Creative Practice.
Now I went for the Creative Practice choice because it sounded most interesting and still remaining IMP-centric. I was thinking up until about 8:54am this morning that I was going to do the Music one, merely because anything mentioning the Gaga in its description is bound to be interesting. But alas, no.
Strand B sees the heavyweights Joe with his Media and the Body, Hugh and his Media and Documentary, James with his Non-Linear Narratives and Chris with his Diversity and Intimacy in the Self Narrative Culture and Texts section.
I went for a bit of Joe because, well, he’s a legend. And an IMP lecturer. Win win. That and I like the whole self-image thing. Although it paled in popularity to the Non-Linear Narratives course for the IMPs, and in general the Documentary course. Meh. Got to love Joe. Puppies or GTFO.
It turned into a bit of a league table, this whole strand selection thing. I wonder if the first from each strand to be oversubscribed get to battle it out to see who wins? One thing’s for sure, surprisingly the Intimacy option isn’t at the bottom of the pile. One’s only got 1 sign-up against it. Ouch. Awkwarddd…
