The Scottish parliament is expected to pass a new ruling later this week regarding the sexual activities of it’s secondary school pupils. This comes after new stories emerge after a couple were given a three-day suspension after being caught in the act.
The HMIE (Scotland’s answer to OFSTED) recently began issuing student questionnaires as well as inspections of the schools themselves to find out what the school’s like when they aren’t visiting, because we all know they put on a fake act when they are. The questionnaires were allotted to random students across the site the day of inspection to get an idea and involved questions about homework, lifestyle and even socialising.
One big blip in the data they collected was around their “Teen Life” section. Studies found that at least 42% of those attending the un-named selection of secondary schools had had at least one sexual encounter with a fellow classmate, with 12% admitting to it happening within school grounds. That’s… kind of disturbing.
Colin McLean, Scotland’s Learning Director, stressed the importance of the ruling calling it “Necessary to sustain the status quo before things got out of hand,” before adding “These are our future. We can’t be letting them get their jollies from Miss Innocent in the common room” before – I imagine – squirming awkwardly.
The main drive to ban the actions is to address the steady decline in Scottish schooling standards. They haven’t necessarily dropped, but they have seen the Standards scores increase less than the GCSEs have in England. Obviously, not wanting to be outdone by our awesomeness, they hit them where it hurt.
Performance of Scottish schools in national and international competitions have also been down (much like their girlfriends, I’d imagine) and this ruling is aiming to reverse the decline of that, say Sport Scotland. “It enables them to focus more at the job in hand”, apparently. I think someone needs to think before they talk in that case… *giggle*
So in short, it’s likely to become law sometime before the start of the next school year that kids need to keep it in their pants – at least when on school premises anyway. I wonder what the punishment could be…
