Thorpe Parkage.

I love theme parks. They are awesome. Having only been to theme parks abroad recently, I jumped at the chance to go along with Tom, Steve, Ash and Aleece to Thorpe Park – quite the national treasure. Not quite Big Ben or Brian Blessed standards, but up there.

Totally not stolen from Steve's Twitter... You know back in the day, at the end of term your school would organise a trip of epic proportions. It would usually be a trip to a museum, the cinema or something. But in the case of end-of-year shenanigans they would ship you all off to a nearby theme park for the day. Your mum would pack you off with a lunchbox full of food, which you would eat on the way there and spend as much time riding rides as possible. This outing was like that, but replace “School” with “IMP” and you’re getting the idea.

Now we’ve all finished doing apparent ‘work’ in our first year at Bournemouth, we thought we best get round to doing something we mentioned a while back. After a bit of a fail start on my part (Hey, I didn’t put road works there…) we headed to Thorpe Park courtesy of Tom.

Now, I’ve never really kept my hatred of waiting for stuff secret – certainly not when waiting to get to a place. I hate long car journeys with a passion, also. So essentially what I did was revert to a 5 year old for a day, starting in the car by staring at stuff out the window. Exciting, I know, but it kept me amused for an hour.

Again not stolen from Steve's Twitter...

But as I said earlier, it was great to finally be in an English theme park where I’m tall enough to ride what I like. No more worrying about height restrictions, fear of dying and all that. I can finally have fun and stand in queues, having paid only £20 for the privilege.

(Did I say I hate queues, too? Suppose you could’ve guessed…)

We popped on the new-ish Saw ride thing which records you screaming and looking like a fool in glorious standard definition for everyone waiting at the exit to laugh at. Great.

My favourite has to be Nemesis Inferno, which we went on twice. I don’t know whether it’s my favourite because of the awesomeness of the actual ride or the fact that it had the shortest queue of any of the roller coasters. Seriously, go on that thing. Just wear proper trainers that tie up, not slip on ones. Luckily I still have both of mine, just…

Anyway, yes. Being essentially a 5 year old boy stuck in a 19 year olds body has its drawbacks. There’s just not enough hours in the day to get through it all. Although we gave it our best punt. We headed back soon after, but via the pub for a final catch up IMP-style.

And that’s it. That’s probably the last time I’ll see the majority of people until September. Ooh, saying that, it doesn’t sound all that far away. :)
