Here’s a little project that pricked my ears up earlier this week, and turns out it’s happening today. The 24th of July will be the day that will be witnessed by the Internet – It’s everyone’s life for one day.
The idea of Life in a Day is that for one day, we see what everyone gets up to. It’s like a little time capsule of the world as it stands. The footage will then get edited down into a documentary style film to be shown at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. Swanky.
There’s this place called the Mass Observation Archive which, essentially, is a giant time capsule again, but with lots and lots of paper in it. Records of every day beings go back as far as the World Wars and outline seemingly mundane things like graffiti, prayer and all that and keeps it locked away. There’s no telling that perhaps even Katie Price might seem like a godlike figure in 2150. (Okay, that’s probably pushing it, I know.)
Imagine that it’s now more than just drawings. That’s pretty much what YouTube does – capture a moment for forever’s enjoyment – but the aim is to get a mass of footage for just this one day. See the day though many eyes.
So the idea is that you film your day and upload it to that special channel youtube.com/lifeinaday. I believe you have a good week to upload it, so there won’t be a rush to edit it together.
I’m interested to see what pops out
