If you know me somewhat (or maybe the fact I own a blog kind of covers this fact) you’ll know I’m rarely not sharing things over the Internet. Most of this stuff is the dry, sarcastic witticisms that have garnered me somewhat of a reputation – good or bad – around these parts.
Problem is, though, how do you know when I’m being sarcastic or not? It’s usually obvious (as my mum would put it – my lips are moving) but for some it’s not. Before I even get a chance to explain that it was all in jest it’s blown up in my face. Oh, Internet. If only there was a solution to this problem…
Enter Sartalics, which in it’s most basic form are italics that lean the other way. It’s a simple idea, and one they want to catch on with the big boys of the Internet.
While unfortunately I can’t have sartalics installed on this blog they would certainly be useful in situations such as slagging off TV shows. I don’t massively detest whatever show I’m talking about otherwise I wouldn’t have watched it in the first place. So these sartalics would be so useful at these points, if not somewhat distracting from the bigger picture.
The idea is to get people to sign up their social media accounts to the cause so that, when they reach 10,000 pledgers they can bomb the accounts of all these different companies like Twitter, Google and Facebook (to name but a few) to implement this new style. It’s not a method that I agree with, so I won’t be participating, but I’d love to see this actually being implemented.
The Internet’s been begging for a mark or formatting technique that denotes sarcasm for almost the 20 years (to the day, almost) the Internet has been publically available. There was even talk of it becoming a standardised HTML5 tag a while back.
So come on, Internet. You know you need it. Join the revolution and spread the word about sartalics now. You’ll totally be the coolest kid in town.
