A few years ago while in Xcaret, Mexican state of Quintana Roo, I asked a local Mayan about the End of the world on December 21, 2012. When he stopped laughing, he told me That date will not be the end of the world, but it marked the beginning of the fifth cycle of 5,200 years called Job Ajaw. On the ancient Mayan Long Count Calendar it was the end of the 13th Baktun Cycle, December 22, 2012 would start the 14th Baktun Cycle. In modern terms it would be much like January 1, 2001 a New Years Day, a new century, a new Millennium He then added Estúpido americano and walked away. I understood the last bit.
